Belly Dancing
About Helen

Helen’s first experience of dancing in public, at the age of 10, was as part of ‘Off The Rails Appalachian’ clog dancing troupe. Since then she has learned other types of dance forms including Salsa, Rueda and Jive and is always keen to learn more. Her latest venture is learning to Pole Dance and is a qualified Zumba teacher. Music and dance have always been an important part of her life. She has a love of all types of music and has played the clarinet, alto, tenor and baritone saxophones in several local bands and orchestras. Helen was introduced to Arabic music at a very young age by her Lebanese father John Sleiman. He is a gifted tabla player who has played for many of the top dancers in the UK and Middle East. While listening to her father play and watching the dancers perform, both live and on TV, Helen learned the skills and techniques of the art of Belly Dancing. At the same time she was studying dance at college for which she achieved a grade A at A level. During her time at college she also completed REPS courses and is a qualified fitness and exercise to music instructor. Her natural dance ability and understanding of music have lead Helen to become an accomplished performer and teacher of Belly Dance. She has performed at many of the large dance festivals including Raqs Britannia, Majma, Bellydance Mania and Oxford Bellydance Bonanza. She has also been the youngest solo dancer at Planet Egypt, London's top Arabic dance showcase.
